“It’s an honor to have been selected for the executive committee,” said Aiken, “I look forward to working with the AAP-PMA and fellow medical administrators, along with the physicians of the AL-AAP to develop new and innovative ways to improve patient outcomes.”

Aiken is a certified medical practice administrator with the Professional Association of Healthcare Office Management (PAHCOM) and has more than 30 years of medical practice administration experience across multiple physician practice specialties and hospitals. Click here to read her full bio.

In her role at the Smith Family Clinic, which specializes in diagnosing individuals with rare or undiagnosed illnesses through the use of genomic sequencing or genetic testing, Aiken provides leadership expertise in all areas of the office and assists physicians and healthcare providers – locally and nationally – in the patient referral process. In addition, she helps guide patients through the on-boarding process and results delivery appointments.

“Carol plays a critical role here at the office,” said David Bick, MD, clinical geneticist at the Smith Family Clinic. “Most of our patients have spent years – sometimes decades – searching for answers and Carol makes them feel welcome, and heard, which leads to a positive patient experience.”

About Smith Family Clinic: The Smith Family Clinic for Genomic Medicine, LLC., a wholly-owned subsidiary of HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, has been established to diagnose patients with undiagnosed and misdiagnosed diseases. Patients will be seen by a clinical geneticist who will evaluate symptoms, or patient phenotype, and determine whether whole genome sequencing or another genetic test is appropriate. The data found from the genomic sequence is then interpreted clinically to identify variants, or changes in the DNA, linked to the disease.
