The Insight Genome Process
To be a part of the Insight Genome program, the first step is to call the Smith Family Clinic for Genomic Medicine: 256.327.9640.
Once you are established as a patient at the clinic, the next step is to provide information in Genome Gateway, an online software tool developed specifically for the practice of genomic medicine. Through Genome Gateway, patients can input personal health information, family history, and the medical conditions in which they are most interested. Additionally, Genome Gateway provides educational materials about whole genome sequencing and the Insight Genome program.
At the Smith Family Clinic for Genomic Medicine you will have an appointment with a geneticist and genetic counselor. This visit will include collecting information about your medical and family history and a short physical exam. A physician will order the clinical whole genome sequencing and pharmacogenomic tests. To complete these tests a blood sample for genome sequencing and a saliva sample for pharmacogenomic testing will be collected.
When the test results are complete in about 90 days, you will be contacted and a time will be scheduled to discuss your results with a geneticist and genetic counselor at the Smith Family Clinic for Genomic Medicine.
